The Original Nicky's Toy Nicky's Toy was another car that was driven in the 70s and 80s. It was a 1962 Nova. It ran very well for its time....the best it ran was 9.98 @ 137 mph. It was featured in Super Chevy Magazine in about 1980 after a trip to the Auto Show at the Arlington Park International Race Track. This car was owned by Nick Sr. and driven mostly by Doug. Nicky's Toy was built by Doug. He also did the body and paint work; Nick had the lettering done. The car featured a one piece fiberglass front end, which made it easy to work on. It also had fiberglass doors and Plexiglas side windows, a 12 bolt rear end, and a 4 speed transmission, which was very hard to keep together under 10.20s. Doug worked his magic on that transmission and kept it together into the 9.90s. The car was driven by Doug with 9,000 rpm hole shots in a BBC, but the trans was not strong enough. The engine was a closed chamber 454/460 ci motor and a flat tappet cam. All steel parts and tunnel ram with 2-660s on top Speed Pro 12.5.1 pistons. We did some work on the closed chamber heads, but no porting. Doug spent most of his time hooking up to the ground what he had. Transmission prices were beyond their reach and automatics have taken a giant step forward since then. The car was sold and we don't know where it is now.
